You will learn how to:

• Accurately adjust listening styles through the lens of the MICA with one of the author’s and the present cohort of participants
• Reinforce previous MICA learning, and further develop a reliable inner decision tree for using the MICA and the MICA report system
• Implement coding rationales using the language in the MICA
• Distinguish between coaching perspectives and coding perspectives for what to emphasize more and where
• Practice in ways that further build confidence and clarity with evaluative, affirmative, and coaching feedback

Course Description:

This live streaming online training series is a hands-on course that will help you to further hone your clarity and confidence when utilizing the MICA (Motivational Interviewing Competency Assessment). You are eligible to attend any of these sessions if you have been trained in the MICA.

MI practitioner audio examples are provided to code with the MICA for determining Inter-rater Reliability (IRR). These outcomes will then guide areas of discussion and practice for the session to provide equal opportunity coding with our reliable interpretation of the language within the MICA in relation to the experience of the MICA coder and coach.

Coaching feedback is also explored with the MI practitioner examples for further supporting MICA Coders and Coaches to provide affirmative, evaluative, and coaching feedback that is customized in the spirit of MI (liken to the melody of the music being in harmony) that does not feel like being “MI’ed” or “techniqued” on the receiving end of the coaching (liken to the lyrics of the song without the melody).
