Some of IFIOC’s Responses
Statement #1: Team identifies resistance talk-This one is tricky, it could be pre-contemplation, BUT there is no target behavior yet…so this stage of Change is tricky.
Statement #2: Focused outside the self, resistance talk. Pre-contemplation
Statement #3: “I am trying to be a better father”=Change talk, but “She….” is resistance talk.
You get to choose to decide where do you want to respond! To the resistance or the change talk?
Statement #4: Resistance talk and change talk. Stage of change is tricky, you can start to understand where to go with the client by understanding the types of talk. Pre-Contemplation is a state of mind, and not every one liner statement can produce exactly where the stage of change is. Stage of Change helps to understand the overall state of mind is at, so keep getting an idea with all the statements as to where the clients mind is at.
