Our favorite session at the convention was offered by Casey Jackson of IFIOC. ‘Insightful, interactive, engaging, life-changing, and inspirational’ were the words used over and over to describe Mr. Jackson and his presentation in the evaluation comments. I found MI training to be an extremely valuable tool as a supervisor. I use reflective communication (equipoise) all the time in supervision as a means to empathically listen to the employee’s feelings/issues.thoughts/resistances, etc., which decreases my tendencies to want to “control” the situation and other pitfalls in management, like taking the situation personally or taking the situation home with me.
