IFIOC‘s approach to Motivational Interviewing training has garnered worldwide attention for innovation and improved outcomes for individuals and systems.
IFIOC’s team has been focused on individual change for 30 years, and specifically on evidence-based change for 15 years, with all trainers being members of the international Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT).
Our Training Model
Motivational Interviewing is the method of communication, the actual language and verbal strategies, to reduce resistance and increase functional engagement with clients in a strength based change process. It teaches the practitioner how to effectively use their interpersonal skills to facilitate sustainable behavior change. IFIOC’s model of Motivational Interviewing training includes how to functionally engage the clients executive functioning that may be impaired due to trauma, behavioral health issues, or other environmental or physical stressors.
Fidelity based Motivational Interviewing has a positive measurable impact on clients, service providers, supervisors, agencies, and systems. In keeping with fidelity and improved outcomes, IFIOC follows a research guided format to training Motivational Interviewing.
Measurably shifting to client/person centered care:
- 2 day Introduction to Motivational Interviewing
- 1 day follow up Intermediate Motivational Interviewing (1 month post Introduction to Motivational Interviewing)
- 2 day follow up Advanced Motivational Interviewing (1 month post Intermediate Motivational Interviewing)
This 4 days of training over 3 months is measurably shown to shift practitioners into a patient/person centered approach to practice. After the 4 days of training, practitioners are demonstrating a person centered approach but not demonstrating fidelity to Motivational Interviewing as an Evidence Based Practice. Research shows professionals need specific fidelity coding/coaching to reach measurable “competency” in Motivational Interviewing.

Training
Whether you want to inspire, teach the fundamentals to communication or teach your agency Motivational Interviewing to fidelity, we can support you. Our research based training is geared towards adult learning and often helps trainee’s bridge the knowledge they have with new concepts that can be implemented immediately.
Personal Coaching Opportunity
Individual personal coaching to improve your communication skills. This opportunity allows participants to submit a short audio of their conversations to be coded and receive personal coaching.
Skill building Sessions
The best way to increase excitement over learning Motivational Interviewing. Skill building sessions allow participants to get together either in person or online to practice the micro skills (like reflective listening, open ended questions, ect) to help their Motivational Interviewing skills become muscle memory

We want to help our clients and their agencies to learn Motivational Interviewing to fidelity if that is their goal. Casey Jackson
Executive Director, Lead Trainer, Project Consultant
Casey has worked in Behavioral health for over 30 years and is a member of the international Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT). He is the lead author of the Motivational Interviewing Competency Assessment (MICA), and has presented at many conferences in a wide-variety of professional fields for line-level staff as well as administrators and other leadership. He has provided over 2000 trainings on Motivational Interviewing and system change to organizations.
John Gilbert
Lead Trainer, Project Consultant
John has been working in the world of Motivational Interviewing for over a decade and is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT). He is a co-author of the Motivational Interviewing Competency Assessment (MICA) and has himself coded over 3000 sessions and provided coaching/feedback using this fidelity tool. John has presented at a variety of healthcare conferences and provided hundreds of trainings on Motivational Interviewing.
