Course Description:

This online training series on Motivational Interviewing will provide a basic overview of the fundamentals of MI as well as the latest updates. Whether you’ve heard of Motivational Interviewing or just want to improve your communication skills, this is a fantastic class to take!  Based on the physics of behavior change, participants will learn assessment and communication skills that foster sustained behavior change by tapping intrinsic motivation. Aside from a didactic approach, there will be video examples, audience participation, and skill practice.

Walk away with learning more about behavior change, and effecting behavior change, deepening your listening skills, and empathy.  Learning Motivational Interviewing you will learn how to naturally decrease resistance in conversations, increase engagement and help folks align their behaviors with their values.  Whether your taking this class for personal development or professional development, you won’t regret it!

Course Learning Objectives:

  • Recognize Stages of Change to Assess Readiness to Change
  • Identify how Equipoise affects the MI Process
  • Demonstrate how Reflective Statements can express Empathy
  • Begin to Recognize Resistance Talk, Sustain Talk, and Change Talk.

At the end of this training an evaluation will be sent out to be completed and returned.  Once the completed evaluation is returned a Certificate of Completion will be sent out.

This training is designed for social workers and behavioral health professionals. IFIOC #1485 is approved as a provider for work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB), through the Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. IFIOC maintains responsibility for the program.  Social workers participating in this training will receive 10 continuing education clock hours.  Professionals should contact their individual regulatory board to review current continuing education requirements for licensure renewal.  ASWB Approval Period: 05/30/2018 to 05/30/2021.
