Motivational Interviewing Training Series
Based on research in both Motivational Interviewing and Technology Transfer, this would include a 4-day training series: the 2-day Introduction to Motivational Interviewing with a subsequent 2-day Advanced Motivational Interviewing approximately one month after the initial training. Research shows that there is no sustained application of MI skills when participants attend a single day or several day training on Motivational Interviewing. What research does reflect is that if the initial training is followed-up with multiple ‘booster’ trainings that discuss integration and focus on skill development, that participants show sustained skill acquisition at follow-up reviews. While there is notable sustained skill acquisition, research reflects that participants are not applying MI with fidelity as an Evidence-Based Practice. The literature shows this is acquired through ‘coding’ and coaching using the Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity (MITI) scale.

Introduction to Motivational Interviewing
This two-day training on Motivational Interviewing will provide a basic overview of the fundamentals of MI as well as the latest updates. Based on the physics of behavior change, participants will learn assessment and communication skills that foster sustained behavior change by tapping intrinsic motivation. Aside from a didactic approach, there will be video examples, audience participation, and skill practice.

Advanced Motivational Interviewing
This 2-day training is for professionals who have received introductory MI training and want to sharpen and improve their use of MI. This is an opportunity for immersion in skill practice and development. There is some exposure to the Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity (MITI) scale to understand the mechanics of MI and how to develop proficiency. The training will analyze and dissect highly competent MI sessions to further explore ‘types of talk’ in seamless MI based conversations.

Motivational Interviewing Skill Building
MI Skill Building capitalizes on the Motivational Interviewing Treatment Integrity (MITI) scale to ‘code’ conversations to measure for fidelity to this Evidence-Based Practice. MI Skill Building takes on a variety of forms based on the needs of the individual and/or group. While all skill building includes ‘coding,’ there are an array of activities to practice skill development and mastery, dissect and analyze MI sessions, and receive individualized feedback.

Motivational Interviewing Refresher
This one-day training is for professionals who have had prior MI training and are looking for the latest updates in MI research and practice. There is a crosswalk of the latest developments in the field of MI and the interface with existing body of knowledge and information. Aside from discussing practical application of new developments, there are new activities for practice and updating skills.

Motivational Interviewing in Healthcare Introduction
This one-day training is for healthcare practitioners who want to improve patient outcomes, as well as increase job satisfaction and reduce stress. Motivational Interviewing is a healthcare best-practice focusing on communication as a fundamental intervention leading to sustained behavior change. The emphasis is on efficient and effective collaboration that maximizes impact within the realities of time constraints in healthcare today. The training tailors MI to the 'Assessment-then-Intervention' medical model with specific healthcare scenarios. This training is an excellent introduction to MI in healthcare, provides updates and a refresher for those who have attended previous MI trainings, and is the foundation to pursuing 'competency' or 'proficiency' standards in MI per fidelity to the best-practice model.

Motivational Interviewing for Managers, Administrators, and Supervisors
This 2-day advanced Motivational Interviewing training is tailored to those in leadership positions who see the value of this communication method in terms of more efficiently and effectively navigating resistance from the workforce and orchestrating alignment with the vision and mission of the organization.
